We also hope you'll find a few promising gifts among the offerings here and in the accompanying pdf file.

What Makes Us Happy?
Matthieu Ricard

Visit TED - Ideas Worth Spreading to view a great video collection of inspired talks by the world's greatest thinkers and doers.

Bookmark the page to visit when you have some time to watch them - you'll undoubtedly find much to enjoy! Be sure to visit the Happiness theme, where speakers have very diverse and engaging views.

For example the Buddhist monk, author and photographer, Matthieu Ricard (sometimes called the "happiest man in the world"), speaks about the habits of happiness.

Dan Gilbert says we are poor predictors of what will make us happy. Barry Schwartz and Carl Honoré each argue that, when it comes to happiness and fulfillment, less is truly more.

And Malcolm Gladwell gives a wonderfully entertaining speech about pursuing happiness through a quest for the perfect pasta sauce!

A Few Thoughts for The New Year
Clock showing midnight, with coloured confetti

A New Year's resolution is something that goes in one year and out the other. (Anonymous)

New Year's Day ... now is the accepted time to make your regular annual good resolutions. Next week you can begin paving hell with them as usual. (Mark Twain)

An optimist stays up until midnight to see the new year in. A pessimist stays up to make sure the old year leaves. (Bill Vaughan)

New Year's Resolution: To tolerate fools more gladly, provided this does not encourage them to take up more of my time. (James Agate)

And finally, on a more philosophical note ...

For last year's words belong to last year's language
And next year's words await another voice.
And to make an end is to make a beginning.

(T.S. Eliot)
