The Book Bug
What's more deadly than a scorpion's sting? The Book Bug.
25 years ago the book bug bit me. I tried to fight it off by procrastinating. I kept repeating the mantra, '
Some day I will write a book - some day I will write a book - some day I will write a book.'
I even tried rationalising. Every time I put pen to paper, I heard voices in my head. '
It can wait, do it tomorrow, go to the fridge, watch T.V.' I did all these things. Well, it would have been rude to ignore myself.
Suddenly it hit me (my head still hurts). The answer. Why not just write the book?
12 months later' I self published my first book
Tai Chi: A Step-by Step Guide to Complete Relaxation, and finally laid the book bug to rest (it's buried in the garden).
So, How Do You Become a Successful Author?
1. Plan
Rudyard Kipling once said "
I keep six honest serving-men, They taught me all I knew; Their names are What and Why and When And How and Where and Who." Put these fellows to work and you have your plan for a best seller!
2. Write
Yes. Unfortunately this is necessary. Avoid paralysis by analysis. Just write.
3. Smile
This is vital for one's sanity and helps avoid a cracked jaw.
The Benefits
1. Ego
It's great for the ego. You join an elite class. You are an author!
2. Credibility
It's an excellent business tool. You gain credibility and recognition for your achievement.
3. Money
And you can make money. Well... Maybe a few pennies to start with, but eventually it could become a best seller.
So if the book bug bites, bite back and write!
