Number Crunching
Stars on a graph

In any business, excellent financial management is key for success. And the professional services of a good accountant and bookkeeper are invaluable!

But to make best use of those services, it's important for a business owner to do some 'financial number crunching' too. For example: setting clear financial goals for the business, painting the 'big picture' and monitoring progress etc.

This month's BeeZine contains tips and resources for doing just that. We hope you find some useful ideas among them!

Cheers

Your Lucky Number

by Chris Bennett

Australian Money

How much do you want to earn in your business?
- Heaps?
- A lot?
- A humungous amount?

These are vague answers, which will get you vague results.

If you want to achieve a financial goal for your business, you need to do some realistic number crunching. To do this, ask yourself three simple questions.

1. What do I want?

Set yourself a specific target - do you want $50,000 or $100,000, or $1000,000. Once you have a specific number in mind, write it down.

2. Where am I now?

Determine where you are now financially. Write down exactly what your income is now.

3. How do I get there?

Compare your target with your current income and see if it is a realistic target. If it is not then go back and set a realistic target. Once you have your realistic target then you can determine how you will achieve it.

Target with bulls eye

Simple? Well yes, most successful methods are simple - but they unravel because of too much analysis, or dreaming or laziness.

Obviously these three questions will raise more questions, especially 'how do I get there?' But this is ok because your answers to those extra questions will become your financial plan.

But to kick start your financial dream and make it a reality ask yourself these questions:
- What do I want?
- Where am I now?
- How do I get there?

And one more thing, don't forget to answer all the questions raised and take action.

When you do, your 'lucky number' will probably come up.
