Business Dreaming

In today's society, dreaming often does not have a good reputation!

Think of the phrases we use, like "You're such a dreamer!" or "Dream on!"

They are not usually given as compliments! They usually imply that 'the dreamer' is wasting time. Or that he/she is impractical, fluffy-headed, or perhaps even way out of touch with reality.

But in reality dreaming is important in both life and in business. It's as important for business success as goals, targets and business plans - it's a crucial piece of the whole puzzle!

We need to dream a successful future in all its glorious detail so we can put the right steps in place to get there.

This month's BeeZine therefore focuses on the importance of "business dreaming". May you find some helpful tips for realising your own dreams!

In Your Dreams
Woman, smiling and eyes closed, with head on a book

Now that you are back at work and have made or (broken) your new year's resolutions, it is time to make your new business resolutions.

Rather than go into a detailed analytical plan, let's start with an easier exercise.

Just relax, close your eyes and 'dream'.

D = Dare to dream

Challenge yourself to dream of the possibilities that can make your business successful. As you do this, avoid falling into the trap of using logic or analysis which can sabotage or censor your dreams from becoming a reality.

R = Reflect on past successes

Reflect on what was successful for your business in the past. Focus on what worked for you then and build from there. This will give you the best foundation on which to create future success.

E = Envision future achievements

See yourself as having achieved your dream now. Feel the success and luxuriate in that feeling of achievement.

A = Adopt a positive attitude

Now focus on a 'can do' attitude that will help you achieve your dreams. For example think about what you can do or are willing to try, rather than the reasons why the dream cannot come true.

M = Make it happen

Start taking practical steps to achieve your dream. Even a small step forward is a step closer. Do it now and you are on the way to fulfill your dream.

So really, the answer to your business success for 2008 is in your dreams!
