The Buzz on Resources for Business   December 2007
A Healthy Resolution
Flashing Christmas Lights

Our warmest wishes to you for the festive season!

As Christmas approaches and 2007 draws to a close, most of us look forward to at least some rest and recreation after another busy year.

All of us in business tend to work very hard and put in long hours. As a result we can find our health and wellbeing suffering. And it's no secret that this in turn will (in time) affect the health and wellbeing of our business!

So, as we wind down for the year and prepare for a great 2008, it's a good time to remind ourselves of one of the most important new year resolutions we can make...

This final issue of The BeeZine for 2007 focuses on tips and resources to help us take care of ourselves both physically and mentally.

We hope you'll find some useful ideas among them!

Cheers

Well, Well, Well

Congratulations! You have survived another year in business.

Now it is time to take a test and see what you have achieved this year. A test that is far more important than money. Yes, I know that is hard to believe … but bear with me.

This is a test to see if your wellbeing is up to scratch, or whether you should be scratched to look seriously at your health and take immediate action!

Score one point for each area and add up your score. Then go to our scale below to see whether you are healthy or you need CPR.

Here's the test. Give yourself one point for each question if you have:

  • Had a health check up this year. (A medical doctor is preferable to a horoscope.)

  • Exercised three times a week for at least 20 minutes per session. (Walking to the fridge and back doesn't count, unless you do it three thousand times in one session.)

  • Meditated regularly. (Sleeping doesn't count, but taking a regular, quiet time-out does.)

  • Eaten a nutritional diet. (Not a junk food diet.)

  • Smiled at least once a day. (Well, okay, at least 6 days a week with one day off.)

  • Helped someone without expecting any reward.

  • Sent a thank you note in appreciation. (A sincere one, not a hollow one.)

  • Donated your time or money to a worthy cause. (Not the pokies.)

  • Said the words I love you. (Saying it to your wife/husband and girlfriend/boyfriend - or all four - only counts as one.)

  • Got out of bed each day with enthusiasm. (Exclude Sundays if necessary.)

Wellbeing Scale

 0  =  Rigor mortis
 3  =  Faint pulse
 5  =  Heart beat getting stronger
 6  =  Well, well, well
 8  =  Looking good
10 =  Congratulations, you're a star!

Well, how did you go?

Did you pass the test, or will you have to resit it next year?

If you'll have to resit the test, start getting your health act together now!
