Humour & Laughter at Work

It's certainly true that owning and running a business is ... well, serious business! It involves hard work, long hours and much juggling of time, tasks, budgets and other priorities.

But unless we include some fun in all this seriousness, our business will actually suffer.

Humour and laughter help to minimise stress, increase productivity, and also help people feel connected and more motivated. All of which means we, our staff and our businesses will be healthier and more successful!

So this month we've collected useful articles and other resources on how to enhance your workplace with humour and laughter. Enjoy!

Have a Good LARF

Perhaps the most important aspect of your business is having a sense of humour. Without it you will probably drive away any potential client or profit.

If you have lost or misplaced your sense of humour then here are some tips for finding it again ...

L = Loosen up. If you are stressed and business is slow then you probably need a few laughs. Start your business day with something that makes you smile or laugh. It may be sharing a joke, looking at a cartoon or reading a humorous article.

A = Appreciate the value a sense of humour brings to your business. Humour attracts and will help you build positive relationships with your customers, employees and suppliers.

R = Research humour you can share with your clients. Make sure it is appropriate and not offensive. Blue humour, sexist, racial humour will offend some (if not all) of your customers, which may result in no repeat business. If in doubt, don't use it.

F = Find the most effective way of communicating your humour to your customers. It may be verbally, electronically (blog, ezine, website), written format (newsletters, cards, flyers) or graphically (cartoons, sketches). Or it may be a combination of some or all of these methods.

Have a good L.A.R.F. often, and you will maintain a sense of humour, gain more customers and laugh all the way to the bank!
