The Searchers
Cowboy on Horse by Chris Bennett

'The Searchers' was a great western made in the 1950's. It starred John Wayne who played Ethan Edwards, a veteran from the American Civil War, who returns to Texas to discover his niece kidnapped by Comanche Indians.

It takes five years before he finds and rescues his niece from the Indians.

Imagine if John Wayne had a lap top computer.

Riding along on his horse, tapping into a search engine and bang, bang, bang. Five seconds later the location of the Comanche Indian village comes up.

From five years to five seconds. Now, that's great time management.

Obviously, in business, we need to reduce our time in searching for key information so we can spend more time in selling our services to make money.

Here are three tips on how to quickly search for information on the net.

1. Type in specific words

For example, if you were researching marketing, the number of entries from a Google search are:

    Marketing = 975,000,000 entries

Now add a specific word and the number of entries reduces to:

    Marketing Tips = 106,000,000 entries
    Marketing Ideas = 90,500,000 entries

The more specific you make it, the fewer entries appear.

2. Use inverted commas

Using specific words with inverted commas will significantly reduce the amount of entries that appear. This way Google searches for the exact phrase, not one word OR the other:

    "Marketing Tips" = 3,800,000
    "Marketing ideas" = 2,080,000

As you can see the number of entries reduces further.

3. Move on

When you use any search engine (including Google) and you can't find what you want after two pages of entries, move on and try another key word search.

So remember to use key words, inverted commas and move on!

Do this and you will 'giddy up' to success.

Copernic Agent
Cowboy on Horse
Apart from the usual web-based search engines, such as those listed in the links in this ezine, a great tool for finding information on the web is Copernic Agent.

There is a basic version of the software available at no charge, as well as two other options (Copernic Personal and Copernic Professional) costing $29.95 and $79.95 US respectively.

The Copernic website has a product comparison page, so you can see the features of each version.

Copernic Desktop Search is another no-cost product, allowing you to search all the files on your computer.

We will also add that we gain nothing from recommending Copernic to others! It's simply a great software tool we use ourselves to help us find the information we need on the web.

Funny Biz
A frequent user of a pay telephone at a popular shopping centre was greatly inconvenienced when the phone went out of order. Repeated requests for repair brought only promises.

After several days, she contacted the phone company again and told them there was no longer a rush.

The phone was now working fine, except that all money was being returned on completion of each call.

A repairman arrived within the hour!
